Only Grell's run on WARLORD 1-50, the Levitz/Giffen LEGION 285-306, and Stern/Romita AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 224-251 come close. Kirby in general, but KAMANDI in particular. What a great time to be collecting comics.

MarsWillSendNoMore posted the complete first issue on his blog:
https://marswillsendnomore.wordpress.com/2011/08/23/the-first-issue-of-jack-kirbys-kamandi/

I feel bad for the kids now, most of them have no idea what they missed from that era.

But fortunately, the KAMANDI stories are back in print:
As DC Archive hardcovers of 1-10, and 11-20.
In two Onnibus hardcovers of 1-20, and 21-40.
And in a thick new complete omnibus in a larger 8" X 11" size of 1-40 within the last year.

Thanks for this sampling, Groove, of why KAMANDI was a series I couldn't wait to buy every month through those years. My first issue was #26 (tigers on a combine chasing Kamandi), found at a flea market. It was a double-paged splash (I'm anxious to see that post, Groove!) and it blew my mind.
My second issued acquired was the Giant No. 32 and that was even more exciting and adventure-filled. Kirby was the beast, er - BEST!HEHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02329418761741982984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897120082101927069.post-8791222006755604892012-01-20T06:57:30.093-05:002012-01-20T06:57:30.093-05:00Wow! I used to go nuts every month as a kid waiting for the newest epic Kirby tale. As well as getting my Spider-Man & new X-Men addiction filled. Those were great days/years to be a kid/teen!

I almost bought the original art to the first issue of Kamandi. As well as to the Eternals #2, I got too late to the seller Mike Royer. Then got out bid on the Eternals #2 complete story! Sigh! I loved Kirby's Eternals & Machine Man as well. To me those were his last two great creations he ever did.Mike Mikulovskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13426364090992151914noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7897120082101927069.post-33490043157162103152012-01-20T01:53:57.431-05:002012-01-20T01:53:57.431-05:00I can remember how much fun these used to be when ...I can remember how much fun these used to be when I was a ten-year-old buying them up at the corner store. They're still fun nearly forty years later (WOW!). I would have loved to seen where Kirby might have taken this if he'd had more time.

DarpyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
