Consequently the covers always required the characters to explain to each what they were doing there which made them seem even weirder. Now covers are just posters; nothing to do with stories or fun. Perhaps it's because kids don't read comics anymore and the remaining adult readers wouldn't believe Spider-man was going to die or Batman was secret leader of the mafia anymore.
