Groovy Guest Post by Mike Mikulovsky: "Codename: The Cold Warrior!" by Thomas, Craig, and Hunt

Here 'tis, Groove-ophiles! Mighty Mike Mikulovsky's thoughts on 3-D Man's final Marvel Premiere appearance! Dig it!!

What it be, cool kats! Have you been chillin' out this winter? Speaking of cool, here's (sadly) the final adventure for our red, green & gold hero! We get yet another great cover by the dynamic duo of Gil Kane & Jolt'in Joe Sinnott...

Mighty Mike would like to thank Anthony Snyder for selling him this glorious Gil Kane preliminary piece!
Thanks, also, to Michael "One Minute Later" Finn for sharing his original cover art!

The interiors of Marvel Premiere #37 (May 1977) were again penciled by the great Jim Craig and inked by Dave Hunt! Of course, our tale was written by rascally Roy Thomas! This issue we get some great battle scenes as 3-D Man battles none other than the Cold Warrior! This tale has it all! Skrulls! Commies! The Cold Warrior, and even Tricky Dickie Vice President Nixon himself!!?? Where's the commie bustin' cop Officer Kirk when we need him! I always wondered if the 3-D Man had gotten his own solo series, would he have battled giant insects or the Blob? Met the 50's Captain America, Bucky, or the original Human Torch? OK I've rambled on here enough! Bust out your 3-D glasses and hop to it! AAhhh what might have been..... HHHmmmmm What If??? To be continued???

A Groovy Guest-Post by Mike Mikulovsky: Hail.....Hail Rock N Roll! Or the Devil Made Me Do It!

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Mighty Mike Mikulovsky is back with part two of his three-part look at 3-D Man in Marvel Premiere! Dig it!!

Hi there fellow Groovsters! Here's the second action packed installment of the 3-D Man's saga, "The Devil's Music!" from Marvel Premiere #36 (March 1977)! This cover, as all Gil Kane covers do, blew me away (inked no less by the legendary Joltin' Joe Sinnott!). Where we see what looks like a Ricky Nelsen-type character, we really have a Skrull about to get a smack down in 3-D! This issue we not only got a beautiful cover, but two mind-blowing splash pages, as well, by the very talented Jim Craig. You can almost see a Wally Wood look to his art here especially in the action sequences. Along with the similarities to the Golden Age Dare-Devil costume design, Hal Chandler, Chuck's younger brother, even looks like a blond haired Buddy Holly. Of course the whole she-bang was created/written/edited by the great Roy Thomas!

Original Craig/Hunt art used for 3-D effect on pg. 5, panel 3. Dig it!

Original art for page 31

It's a shame the 3-D Spider-Man mag never happened. The 3-D Man was going to be the back up story/character. It would have been really far out to see both Spidey and the 3-D Man actually in 3-D!  Who you gonna call? Skrull Busters! SSttaayy  ttuunneedd...Same 3-D Man!! Same far-out and groovy website!

A Groovy Guest-post by Mighty Mike Mikulovsky: "The 3-D Man in 3-D! Or Grease is the Word! (Well, not really in 3-D! But in 2-D!)"

Sweet X-Mas! From the first time I saw the 3-D Man I was a fan for life. Was it because of yet another great cover by Jack "KING" Kirby? Or the crazy red, green, and gold outfit he wore? Or could it been because everyone was yearning for Happy Days  like we were all seeing on ABC every Tuesday week night? Everything 50's was very cool once again! Created by Roy Thomas and artist Jim Craig, 3-D Man borrowed the uniform of the Golden Age hero, Daredevil, goggles and colors from Simon Williams' original Wonderman costume ! The story was originally suppose to be a 3-D comic with 3-D glasses, but for one reason or another (cost $$??) it was never done in 3-D. Sigh!

The alter ego of the 3-D Man was test pilot Chuck"Yeager?" Chandler a very cool football hero/test pilot. A James Dean/Marlon Brando type who was sort of like Hal Jordan/Green Lantern. Ironically, Chuck's crippled younger brother was named Hal! After Chuck ate his Wheaties and had an alien abduction run in with a gang of butt ugly Skrulls in their UFO, he crash landed back on earth, somehow merging with his brother Hal's glasses to become the triple strong, triple tough, triple fast 3-D Man! Ok enough of my long winded intro.  Watch the skies! Beware of any strange acting neighbors or strangers you might meet, because they might really be much stranger than you think! They might be Skrulls! AAAyyyyy!!! Let's Rock N Roll!!
