Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Time for more awesome artistry courtesy Howard Victor Chaykin! Today we're diggin' his Enemy Ace debut in Men of War #9 (June 1978). Written by EA co-creator Robert Kanigher, "Brother Killers!" is actually the second part of this particular Enemy Ace serial, the first part having been drawn by Larry Hama and Bob Smith in MoW #8 (which you can read here). Are ya ready for take-off? Here we go!!

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Today we gonna celebrate good all-American comicbook stuff like horror, sci-fi, robots, and baseball! "Relic", from Creepy #84 (cover-dated November 1976), was written by Roger (Charlton Arrow) McKenzie and blessed with art by two of the all-time giants of comicbook illustration, Carmine Infantino and John Severin. Groove's Faves: "The Crushing Conquer-Lord!" by Moench and Perlin
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! I dunno about you, but Young Groove absolutely flipped out when he saw Marvel Spotlight #28 (March, 1976) sittin' on Ye Olde Spinner Rack. That Don Perlin/Klaus Janson cover featuring Moon Knight was so unique and iconic it just pulled the change outta my pocket like a giant magnet. "The Crushing Conquer-Lord" didn't disappoint in the least, baby! Ya didn't have to know Moon Knight from Adam (or Werewolf by Night, where he made his debut--learn all about it here), 'cause Doug and Don had him all figured out, complete with cool motif, weapons, methods of travel, multiple identities (shades of The Shadow!), and supporting cast. Moonie just had to be the Next Big Thing! See if ya don't agree...
I couldn't bear the thoughts of waiting two whole months for the next part...but somehow I survived. Hope you survive 'til next week, Groove-ophiles!

Groove's Faves: "A Choice of Destinies" by Levitz, Staton, and Layton
The Huntress. Earth-2's Batgirl. The daughter of Earth-2's Bruce (Batman) Wayne and Selina (Catwoman) Kyle. Teen Groove really, really dug her. From her origin tale in DC Super-Stars #17 (August 1977--read all about it here) to her many appearances in the Justice Society (in All-Star Comics and Adventure Comics), I was really taken by this creation of Paul Levitz, Joe Staton, and Bob Layton. When she finally got her own series in Batman Family (issues 18-20--by the selfsame creative team that thunk her up), I was in fanboy heaven! Finally, here's the Diversions debut of that short-but-oh-so-sweet series! From Batman Family #18 (March 1978), here's The Huntress facing..."A Choice of Destinies"!
Two parts left? Wanna see 'em? Lemme know, Groove-ophiles!

The Grooviest Covers of All Time: The Marvel-ous Godzilla
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! This weekend's big flick is the new Godzilla movie. If all goes according to plan, Ol' Groove will have seen it before you read this pugnacious post (I'll tell ya what I thought later). I have always been a Godzilla fan, so how cool was it when Mighty Marvel got the rights to the King of the Monsters back in May, 1977? It was pretty cool, especially when you consider that Doug Moench wrote it, Herb Trimpe drew it (Happy Herb was the Master of Big Green Monsters, wuzn't he?), and they even got S.H.I.E.L.D., the Champions, the FF, Devil Dinosaur, and the Avengers involved. Check out these cool covers by Happy Herb and an army of awesome inkers, baby!
