Groovy Age Gold: "The Monkey's Circle!" by Kanigher and Krigstein
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Here's a classic Wildcat tail--er--tale by two of comics' all-time masters: writer Robert Kanigher and artist Bernard Krigstein (best known for his innovative work at EC in the 1950s). Originally published in Sensation Comics #84 (cover-dated December 1948), t'was reprinted in the back of Justice League of America #96 (December 1971).
I always loved Wildcat, Sandman/the original gasmask/trenchcoat version & the Guardian! Could we see some more of each please! And no, my names not Oliver! Holy flashbacks Catman!Groovy one have you ever posted DD #124 & #125 with Copperhead yet? If not, I'd love to see those!
ReplyDeleteSandman (i liked both Golden Age version)is also a favorite of mine - but Wildcat for some reason has always been my favorite Golden Age character - i have seen a handful of his GA adventures but never this one - i am glad you posted it!
ReplyDeletein the Groovey Age i LOVED Jim Aparo's Wildcat in B&B and the Giffen/Wood version ain't bad either!
I would love to see some of those fly-by-night Marvel imitators that were springing up like mushrooms in cow shit in those days. Harvey:Spyman,Piranah,Jigsaw, Jack Q Frost.Mighty:The Mighty Crusaders.MF Enterprises:Captain Marvel(You know the one I mean).I have some fond childhood memories of those cheese fests.As a kid I would devour any comic,no matter how bad,that got within ten feet of me.You too I'm guessing.
ReplyDeleteYep, I devoured any comic I could get, too, and especially loved the Radio/Mighty and Tower stuff. Most of it's before the Groovy Age, but I might find an excuse to trot some of those moldy oldies out sometime...
