Making a Splash: Aparo's Aquaman Adventures

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! We've rapped about the incredible Steve Skeates/Jim Aparo era of Aquaman in his own mag during the early Groovy Age, but what about the King of the Seven Seas' return to glory in the pages of Adventure Comics (issues 441-452, July 1975-April 1977). Short-lived glory you say? Naw, this run in Adventure was so good it lead to the revival of Aquaman's own mag--which we'll rap about another day. 'Til then, enjoy these awesome Aparo illoed Aquaman in Adventure splashes!

    Fantastic stuff. I know there's lots of fans who think of Nick Cardy and Ramona Fradon as the definitive Aquaman artists (and I love their work), but for me it's Aparo all the way.

    with Aquaman, a splash page is often literally a "splash" page

    I always felt Aquaman looked better with two arms, instead of one arm and a hook. And he never looked better with two arms, than he did under Aparo's work! Truly, though, I think his style was grooviest on Spectre and Batman.
