Funny Stuff: "The Flash Meets Jerry Lewis" by Bridwell and Oksner

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! As Ol' Groove has rapped about in the past, Jerry Lewis has always been one of my favorite celebrities. Loved his movies, his work on the annual MDA Telethons, and of course, his comics. Since DC published his mag, The Adventures of Jerry Lewis, it was inevitable that Jerry would occasionally meet up with some of DC's super-heroes. Like in ish #112 (March 1969), where "The Flash Meets Jerry Lewis" by E. Nelson Bridwell and Bob Oksner. This one is kinda edumacational, too, since we find out where the bad guys (used to) get their costumes...

Sunday Funnies: Jerry Lewis in "The Bird with the Million Dollar Beak"

So, Groove-ophiles, are you enjoying your long weekend (for those of ya in the U.S.--sorry, everyone else!)? A mainstay of Ol' Groove's Labor Day festivities is the annual Jerry Lewis/MDA Telethon. The MDA does a lot of good for a lot of people (personal experience, as I have a family member who's also one of "Jerry's Kids"), so I hope after you get through digging this corny little fun-fest from The Adventures of Jerry Lewis #124 (February 1971)--that mag's final ish, by the way, you'll do your bit for Jerry's Kids tonight or tomorrow. Meantime, harrumph... Hey, ladeeeeeeee! Look out for "The Bird with the Million Dollar Beak"!

And don't forget to make your MDA pledge!

Sunday Funnies: Adventures of Jerry Lewis

Ol' Groove ain't French, but he sure loves Jerry Lewis! Tomorrow is the Clown Prince of Comedy's 83rd birthday, and here's wishing him the best of the best! During the Silver Age, DC produced a Jerry Lewis comicbook, believe it not, called The Adventures of Jerry Lewis! (How's that for originality?) The mag lasted until the early part of the Groovy Age, ending with ish #124 (February/March 1971). Here's a snicker-filled story that kept Li'l Groove in stitches over and over again from Adventures of Jerry Lewis #120 (July/August 1970), apparently inspired (at least title-wise) from a Jerry Lewis film with a very similar name. I dare ya to keep a straight face while you read "Hook, Line, and Sunk!"

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
