Shades of Gray: "Cat!"

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! Here's a special treat from Red Circle's Chilling Adventures in Sorcery #3 (July 1973),--the debut story from the Gray Morrow-edited era of Archie Comics' one, true mystery/horror mag (well, at least until they converted Madhouse for a few issues...). Ol' Groove is sure you're gonna flip for the..."Cat!"

  1. Lovely art, but the sheer density of those word balloons is staggering. Was Morrow paying himself by the word for that script? Honestly, comic artists often get fed up dealing with writers, and a great many of them start to wonder why someone else should be getting a cut of the action when they figure they can do the job all by themselves. How hard could writing be, after all? Well, let this be a warning to you. Sometimes the writer-artist-editor thing works out just fine, but sometimes you get...this.

  2. Seeing all the pages together like this, I notice that Gray seems to be experimenting by aping the style of some of the Spanish comics artists of the day. And doing it well I might add.
