Happy Halloween, Groove-ophiles! Here's the first of two (Count 'em, two!) special, Halloween Bonus Request Line Specials, thanks to Groove-ophile John Short! First up, here's a freaky fable based on the creepy classic by Robert (Psycho) Bloch from the debut ish of Monsters Unleashed (March 1973). Get ready to howl with "The Man Who Cried 'Werewolf'!" by Gerry Conway and Pablo Marcos. AaaOOOOOO!!
See ya in eight hours for the fear-fraught follow-up!
Just wanted to take a second and thank you for all the effort you put into your countdown this year, and to thank you for all the great comics. Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this, Groove! I had completely forgotten how those first few issues of Marvel's b&w horror mags added those single-color elements...it was a nice touch. I never understood why Marvel said that Monsters Unleashed was the title they never got a grip on. To me, it always seemed like the one with the greatest range and story potential. Thanks for the last month, too - so weird and wonderful. Happiest of Halloweens, Groove!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, Shawn! Happy Halloween back at ya!
ReplyDeleteI just re-read this last night. I've always felt Marcos' best work was when he did full art, not inking other people, and this may be my single FAVORITE comic he ever did. Bloch's story, which touches briefly on insanity and psychiatrists, would have been a perfect fit in the Amicus anthology "ASYLUM", also adapted from his work.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, in my book, when someone adapts classic stories, the originla writer should be listed FIRST. That's how I do it in my own personal comics indexes.
