Ol' Groove's Request Line: Nick Cuti and Mike Zeck's "The Hour of the Werewolf"

Hey, hey, hey! Time for a brand new feature, Groove-ophiles: Ol' Groove's Request Line! Got a Groovy Age memory you'd like to relive here on the DotGK? Well, drop Ol' Groove a line and if I can beg, borrow, steal, or scan it, I'll post it here for ya! For our inaugural request post, here's Nick (Today's his birthday!) Cuti and Mike Zeck's "The Hour of the Werewolf" from Monster Hunters #9 (October 1976) requested by Groove-ophile Tim Butler! Enjoy!

  1. Many thanks, Groove. I'm not sure, but I think this was the only time Col. Whiteshroud got to do some actual monster hunting and not just hosting the stories. Too bad, 'cause it looks like Cuti and Zeck had a blast doing this. I love all the little touches (Baron Weirwolf's cameo, the Col. fighting in WWII) and Zeck's panels and perspective are every bit as confident as his later Punisher stuff. And that cover is one of the top ten of all time! Every bit as cool as I remember. Thanks again!

  2. Marvel and DC snob that I was, I didn't pay much attention to Charlton Comics. I guess I should have.

  3. You're welcome, Tim!

And Rich, it's never too late! Lose yourself in Charlton-land! You'll dig it!

  4. Wow! I had this issue as a kid... bought it on a junk shop trip with my Dad, at a joint where the comics were 10 for a dollar, and old Mad Magazines were 4 for a buck! What a thrill to see it again... thank you!

  5. They wouldn't let Nic use Mike Zeck so he just sent him work anyway! Nic had a great eye for talent, he brought in Staton, Zeck, Newton. Just great.
