Thanksgiving Feast 2009: Denny O'Neil, Mike Kaluta, and Bernie Writghtson "The Kingdom of the Cobra"

Happy Thanksgiving, Groove-ophiles! Get ready to glut yourself on some of the most far-out and fab comics by some of the most far-out and fab artists and writers to ever slide between the four-colored covers. It's a virtual trip through the Groovy Age of Thanksgivings, and it's all just for you! This year's feast is actually a four course meal served up hot every six hours, so put on your checkered bib and prepare to chow down!

Let's kick this feast of fab comicbooks off with a classic tale of The Shadow called "The Kingdom of the Cobra", written by (who else?) Denny O'Neil with art by the titanic tag-team of Mike Kaluta and Bernie Wrightson (The Shadow #3, November 1973).

    Whether O'Neil/Kaluta, O'Neil/Robbins, or O'Neil/E.R.Cruz, I loved this series. At least we have 12 enduringly great issues that we can still enjoy, almost 50 years later. I dream of DC reprinting all 12 issues, and including JUSTICE INC 1-4 by O'Neil/McWilliams (issue 1), and O'Neil/Kirby (issues 2-4), that our friend Groove has been gracious enough to post here. To me that's a logical set of stories to include in one volume because 1) The Avenger appears in THE SHADOW 11, and also in JUSTICE INC 1-4, and 2) O'Neil scripted all the issues.

    I assembled links to every 1970's Marvel, DC and Warren story in chronological order, linking quite a few to pages here on Groove's blogsite.

    Would that Wrightson were still here with us, he was one of the kindest comics creators I've had the pleasure to meet.
