Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Wouldn't ya like to read a fun story written by Paul Kupperberg? And wouldn't it be neat if it featured far-out art by the mucho-missed master Marshall Rogers? And how cool would it be if that story featured the Bottle City of Kandor's answer to Batman and Robin, Nightwing and Flamebird? Well here ya go! From Superman Family #194 (December 1979) here's Kupperberg and Rogers' version of Nightwing and Flamebird in a "Showdown"! Can you dig it?
What a great artist.
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine Rogers on Nick Fury, possibly the only artist besides J.H. Williams that could've replaced Steranko!
JK
What a great little story - and needless to say, Rogers' pencils are nothing short of brilliant.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this - I never read any of DC's "anthology" titles (Superman Family, Batman Family, Weird War Tales, House of Mystery, etc.) regularly, so I missed out on so many of these little gems of back-up stories.
Groove: Thanks for posting this! I discovered Nightwing and Flamebird in Superman Family when I was a kid. It left quite an impression on me. In fact, I was the annoying kid in my Jr. High comics circle who always said "There was a Nightwing before Dick Grayson, you know."
ReplyDeleteYour post inspired me to tackle the Silver Age Nightwing and Flamebird. I linked my post back to yours.
Thanks for the link, GWB! I dug your post, too!
