Admiring Adams: "The Powerless Power Ring!"
What it is, Groove-ophiles! Y'know, when fans think about the legendary Green Lantern/Green Arrow creative team of Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams (sometimes referred to as "Denny O'Neal Adams"--take THAT, Hollywood!), they think (naturally) of Green Lantern/Green Arrow #'s 76-89 (January 1970-January 1972) and Flash #'s 217-219 (May-September 1972)...and that's all. But, as you, you lucky Groove-ophile you, are about to see, Denny and Neal teamed up one more time (with definitive Gl/GA inker Dick Giordano) for this sweet little Green Lantern solo-tale. "The Powerless Power Ring!", from Flash #226 (December 1973) just might be the "forgotten" O'Neil/Adams swan-song. Until now! Dig it, baby!
I remember reading this story when it first came out. It was good then and now. I recall thinking,at least till the last page, that the yellow in the lights had effected the ring. But no it was bad canned food. As Bob Hope use to say, thanks for the memory.
ReplyDeleteGuess who did forget this lovely tale until now...yep, that's right, me! Many thanks
ReplyDeleteDon't forget Adams' GL Hostess ad!

Sigh I miss the grand old days when expert writers could craft a superb tale in eight pages of less, without need of grand crossovers and multi-page arcs
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative team! The art and the writing are both superb here. Like earth-two said, this was the god ol' days when you didn't need a six issue arc to tell a good story.
