Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! How'd ya like to plant your peepers on two more chapters of Len Wein and Mike Kaluta's out of this world (in more ways than one) adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Pirates of Venus from Korak, Son of Tarzan #s 48-49 (June-August 1972)?

Groove, Carson of Venus was my favorite of DC's ERB adaptations. It still is. Thanks for posting it! (And feel free to let us see some Murphy Anderson and Gray Morrow's work on John Carter as well!) :-)

ReplyDeleteAs a young lad I was crazy for Burroughs in general, and the DC Comics renderings in particular. I devoured all the TARZAN, KORAK and WEIRD WORLDS issues I could get my hands on.
I actually remembered this story [which sometimes happens-- our friend Mykal calls that a "memory rush"]... but I reckon I got the issues used a few years later, maybe about '75 or '76. I would have been all of 11 or 12 years old :)

I've heard that Dark Horse is going to be releasing DC's John Carter material in hardback very soon. Could the Marvel stuff be far behind?
ReplyDeleteWow, does this ever take me back!!! I absolutely LOVED all of the Carson / Kaluta DC issues. Those few issues were my favorite comics of all time. I can remember that I cut out some of the Carson comics and taped them in my school notebook. I HOPE you can post the rest of the DC Carson comics!
