Byrne-ing to Read: Doomsday +1 #3
What it is, Groove-ophiles! All you Byrne Victims ready for some more Doomsday +1? "The Peace Keepers" from Doomsday =1 #3 (August 1975) is definitely one of my faves. Joe Gill's plot isn't entirely original (robotic aliens decide mankind is evil and must be destroyed for the good of the universe), but Byrne's imaginative and expressive art (nobody does robots like Byrne, baby!) makes it all seem fresh. Ol' Groove also digs the character moments--Kuno's loyalty to his friends is neat, but the best part is when Jill and Kuno get it together at last, and Boyd finally opens his eyes and notices that Ikei is the chick for him. It's way too much fun for a post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, but hey, that's the Groovy Age for ya!
The cyborgs operate on broadcast power, eh? Someone was reading up on Tesla, I think.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Groove!
