Season's Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Scary stories are a fun Christmas tradition (and anyone who disagrees go sit in a corner and read the Dickens out of A Christmas Carol!) that the folks at Warren Magazines did more than their fair share to keep alive during the Groovy Age. For proof, look no further than Creepy #86 (December 1976). T'was a lovely Christmas-themed issue filled with, not only spooky spine-tinglers with a Yuletide edge, but heart-tuggers that rank with the best (or worst depending on your leanings) country Christmas songs (and topped with a far-out Ken Kelly cover). Two stories are particular stand-outs in that outstanding ish for a couple of reasons: the writing talents of Bruce Jones and Gerry Boudreau paired with the art of Al Williamson and Carmine Infantino (inked by John Severin, no less!) and the use of various shades of red to add to the mood. Are you ready for "Mother Knows Best"?

Wow, Al Williamson and John Severin regularly published in a magazine. Those were the days. I just pulled my copy of that issue off the shelf. There is a great Infantino/Wrightson story in there as well.
