Black and White Wednesday: "Kings of the Night" Part 1 by Thomas and Wenzel

What it is, Groove-ophiles! Groove City is rockin' with another adaptation of one of Robert E. Howard's most acclaimed tales, "Kings of the Night". Not only is "Kings..." one of Howard's most powerful and well-written works, but it teams two of his best-loved characters, King Kull and Bran Mak Morn. Of course, since we're talking the Groovy Age, the one-and-only Roy Thomas wrote and edited this two-part adaptation for Savage Sword of Conan #'s 42-43 (May-June 1979), and as usual, his writing skills and ability to perfectly capture Howard's essence is well-evidenced. The glorious art is by David Wenzel, best known for his book illustrations and especially (for comics fans) his art on Chuck Dixon and Sean Deming's graphic novelization of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (1989). Today Ol' Groove's gonna lay part one (complete with the Rascally One's intro) upon ya; next week you can dig the conclusion. Ready? Steady! Go!
