Groove's Faves: "The Last Hideout" by O'Neil, Rogers, Nasser, and Colletta

What's happening, Groove-ophiles! Dig on what Ol' Groove's dug up--a far-out featurette featuring Black Lightning, written by Denny O'Neil, with layouts by the late, great Marshall Rogers, pencils by the oh-so-talented Mike Nasser (now Michael Netzer), and inks by Vinnie Colletta. "The Last Hideout" (from World's Finest #259, July 1979) sports such groovy Rogers/Nasser/Colletta art that you almost forget to notice the cool mystery with a macabre twist O'Neil came up with--so watch for it!

  1. Sweet Christmas!
Holy flashbacks! This is when BL was cool! He always kind of reminded me of Luke Cage Powerman costume wise. It's too bad DC & Marvel didn't keep doing cross overs, I would had loved to see a BL/PM cross over battle/team up.

Hey groovster, how about blogging on Amazing Spider-Man #123 & Luke Cage Hero for Hire#1. If not atleast the splash pages from those books?

  2. Good story, great art (Rogers and Netzer are great substitutes for the "main" BL artist, Trevor von Eeden). This reminds me how much I used to love World's Finest and Adventure when they were both dollar comics, because they were packed with entertaining and beautifully drawn gems like this one.

  3. This gives me hope. I found a beat up copy of Black Lightning #3 where he fights a dork called the Whale. Way lame art and story. I was hoping for something more like this!
