Making a Splash: "Our Pal" Sal Buscema's Captain America--Round Two

We're back with Round Two of Sal Buscema's far-out and fab Captain America splash pages, Groove-ophiles! The response to last week's Round One was huge--and Ol' Groove thinks things'll catch fire with this week's round! The following splashes represent a very important and much-loved Cap-era: the Cap-debut of author Steve Englehart, the secret of the 1950s Captain America and Bucky, the Serpent Squad, Cap's short-lived super-strength--and oh, yeah, Roy Thomas and Tony Isabella drop by to introduce the man who would become the second Baron Zemo. Enjoy!

Next: Moonstone! The X-Men! The Secret Empire! and Nomad!

  1. I love Sal'srun on Cap! The 50's Cap was great, I loved how Marvel tied up those loose & confusing ends of the 50's Cap. Who he really was & what became of him. I had read reprints with his stories from the 50's as a kid & was always confused by them.

This was a great way tell his & Jack Monroe/Bucky II's origins. I was very disappointed Cap II was killed off later. Loved the Viper character too, hated they killed him off too.Bring on the Nomad the ZMan without a country saga Please!

  2. I'll always have a soft spot for 'And A Phoenix Shall Arise!' because it was the Captain America Power Records release. Even if I read the comic there's a little 'ding!' in my head as I turn the pages.

  3. Wil, I'm with ya, man! Got it right now on my MP3 Player. The voices are kinda funny; Cap sounds like Zacherley!

  4. This was the era when I first started reading Captain America, and I still think it's one of the best runs ever. Englehart really knocked it out of the park, and this is some of Sal Buscema's best work.
