Addicted to Alex Nino: "The Blank Space" by Skeates and Nino

Two of the top talents of the Groovy Age, author Steve Skeates and artiste Alex Nino provided this creepy classic for DC's Forbidden Tales of Dark Mansion #8 (September 1972). Great way to kick off a week, innit, Groove-ophiles?

  1. Brilliant - it's too bad Nino's apparently not a big enough name or fan favorite to merit some kind of collection of all these stories from DC's various anthology titles in the '70s (especially those great features from Weird War Tales).

    1. Such a great idea, Edo. We would LOVE to see an Alex Nino omnibus featuring all these DC stories! After finding out about Nino when we bought some old Weird War Tales from a friend, we discovered Diversions of the Groovy kind while searching for more - and we've been hooked ever since.

  2. Fantastic stuff - reminds me of some the pieces from this Dracula mag from the same era. Bizarrely though with no actual Dracula in it.

Luckily I bagged the set of 12 issues and hardback collection for £40 a couple of years back

  3. Alex Nino had a SUPERB sense of design, and knew how to use abstraction within representational (and sequential imagery) to great effect. A wonderful stylist amidst the more (or less) classical illustrators from his native land, the Philippines.
