Black and White Wednesday: Some Awesome Art from Howard Chaykin and Wendy Pini

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Ol' Groove's in the mood to just kick back and dig some awesome art--hope you are, too! First up I've got some pulse-pounding Howard Chaykin pin-ups featuring Conan, Red Sonja, and Solomon Kane (from Savage Sword of Conan #22, July 1977)...

And how 'bout a righteous Red Sonja portrait--complete with original poem!--by Sonja cosplayer and Elfquest co-creator Wendy Pini (from Savage Sword #23, August 1977)?

  1. A couple years ago I went to a comic convention in Montreal, and much to my surprise there was Howard Chaykin sitting at a table! I didn't have anything for him to sign, so I went and bought a copy of SSoC 22, which I had as a kid and remembered for his great pinups. I waited in line as he talked about the changes in film noir before and after the 2nd World War, then got him to sign my favourite, the one you didn't scan ;) Thanks for all your great work!
