Black and White Wednesday: "Fists of Darkness, Fists of Death!" by Mantlo, Broderick, and Austin

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Sometimes when Ol' Groove digs deeply into the Files of the Far-Out he runs across a rarity that just boggles the mind. Today is one of those times. First off, it's a team-up between Iron Fist and the Sons of the Tiger from Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #18 (October 1975). Secondly, just dig the pedigree of the creative team: Bill Mantlo (writer), Pat Broderick (pencils), and Terry Austin (inks). Finally, this baby just oozes 1970s out of it's every pulpwood pore--the clothes, the slang, and yes, the stereotypes (of which there are many). But, dang, it's soooo cool! It's like a kung-fu/blaxploitation mash-up you can't tear yourself away from. Warning: this story is not for the faint of heart...or the militantly PC! Watch out! Here comes..."Fists of Darkness, Fists of Death!"

  1. I'm guessing that the unnamed "doctor-friend" was long-time Spider-Man villain Jonas Harrow, who kept showing up like a rash back in the 70's. Unorthodox experiments, "gotta get the isotope for the doctor", etc.
