What it is, Groove-ophiles! Today we're looking at a classic Skywald Horror-Mood piece by "Archaic" Al Hewetson at his bizarre best (and artist Maelo Cintron ain't nothin' t'sneeze at, either!). Hewetson was evidently a pen-pal of the infamous Dr. Fredric Wertham (author of Seduction of the Innocent and leader of the movement to ban comics in the 1950s), so he decided to write a story in which Wertham (along with then-Comics Code Authority prez Len Darvin) takes umbrage with Hewetson's over-the-top and merrily macabre mags. Various Skywald employees appear in the story (including the writer and artist, publisher Herschel Waldman, and the corpse of artist Pablo Marcos), which makes it whacky, a bit tasteless, and quite surreal! Hewetson sent a copy of Scream #1 (cover-dated August 1973) to Wertham for comment. According to sources, "Wertham didn't get the point." Oh, well. See if you "get the point", Groove-ophiles, as you peruse..."The Comics Macabre"!
Hahahahahahahahahaha!
