Seasons Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Here's a sweet little Christmas fable featuring Archie and the Gang, written and penciled by Al Hartley with inks by Joltin' Joe Sinnott! 'Tis the season of love and compassion as "My Father" reminds us while still providing a chuckle or three via Sabrina, Jughead, and Moose's antics. As usual, it's sweet little Betty who grounds us and reminds us what it's all about, but why shouldn't she? This story was originally published in Betty and Veronica Christmas Spectacular (aka Archie Special Series) #191 (Winter 1971), ya know!
Don't know about this one Groove. I felt like I was reading one of Archie Comics's Christian titles.
ReplyDeleteTo each his own, Bryan. Me, I dug those Spire Archies, heavy-handed though the could be. I thought "My Father" was a bit more even-handed than the Spire tales, plus it captures the Spirit of Christmas pretty well for me. Maybe you'll dig what's coming up for the rest of the holidays... ;D
DeleteIt happens, of course, that Al Hartley wrote those Archie 1-shots for Spire, too. Wonderful stuff, and perfect, with Christmas a week away.
ReplyDeleteLovely story. On the other hand, ARCHIE has now gone the opposite direction with the pro-homosexual material like the Kevin Keller stories, and won't even go near the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ---kinda like a picture of the U.S. as a whole---and look what's happening to the nation...

As Groovy said above to each his own. Personally I was never more proud of Archie comics than when then introduced Kevin Keller. Just like when they introduced "Chuck" and other minorities throughout their publishing history, Archie Comics has never been afraid to embrace diversity (including, obviously, Christianity).
DeleteThanks - back in the day when you weren't hassled for your Christianity
