Groove's Faves: "Hellstorm!" by Friedrich and Trimpe

What it is, Groove-ophiles! Has it really been a year since we last checked in on the trapped-at-ant-size duo of Hank and Jan Pym, aka Ant-Man and the Wasp? Sheesh! Well here's the third chapter of Ol' Groove's all-time fave Ant-Man saga from Marvel Feature Vol. 1, No. 6 (August 1972)--which I got for my ninth birthday, I might add! Young Groove loved Mike Friedrich and Herb Trimpe's "Hellstorm!" with a passion! The villainy of Whirlwind, Jan's sacrifice, the action-packed old-time serial style escape from burning lab, and Wasp's trick with her "wet" wings--this was one thrill ride of an ish! Ya know what? I still dig it! Hope you do, too!

  2. I remember Whirlwind. He had super-speed, but it didn't seem to extend to his brain. He was,as I recall, one of Ant-Man's rogue's gallery. Him, Egghead and the Highjacker. Talk about a light bench.

  3. I always loved this feature! I always loved Hank Pym as Antman, Giantman, Goliath & Yellow Jacket! I'm still pissed off when Marvel trashed this character. Just for the sake of sales. I know Herb pretty good. This besides Phantom Eagle was his favorite project. He was a big Ant-Man fan & especially when his brother inked it too. I love his original costume, but really loved this version too. Sort of a swashbuckler look! I guess Ant-Man didn't want to be a Ppiiraatteee after all! LOL

I was very disappointed they used Hawkeye in the Avengers movie. Instead of Hank Pym/Ant-Man/Giantman/Goliath. I thought he'd try to join at first then be laughed at. Only to show up at the very end as Goliath/Giantman. In th heat of the battle, then shrink down to Ant-Man & go inside Ironman's armor to reboot his armor * open his eyes & mouth slits for air. Showing even as Ant-Man he's a valuable team member. As well as another brain on the team.

  4. Mike, 'Amen and Amen..!'

A huge Pym fan, I had to collect every MU and Legends Pym figure last year. I'll never forgive ol' Shooter for doing Pym like that.

Love the miniaturized Iron Man repair idea, SUPERB movie idea.

  5. I had a freind Ron Coyne, who felt was Hank Pyms best costume. The yellow stitch and red shirt-a sort of Flash Gordon look.I had to agree. It didn't go with the usual.Marvel should kept it.Also I like the Grant Williams Strinking Man bit-disreguarding the Atom bit of him going up and down in size.Hank trying to struggle goes to inspiration origins, with Incredible Strinking Man.And having Wasp, too goes her initial inspiration origins-bee queen chick Joanna Frank from Outer Limits ZZZZZ episode. This comic was fun and enjoyed over many Ant Man stuff since. I'm happy Marvels even attempting an Ant Man movie-whether it'll good is unknown.Just talking about the forgotten Avenger, who helped form the team,is a miracle.
