Greetings, Groove-ophiles! While we were digging brand-new Bill Everett art on Marvel's Sub-Mariner back in '72, we were also getting a taste of Wild Bill's Subby of the 1950s (Sub-Mariner #41, August 1955 to be precise). While both versions were quite different, Everett's slick inks and lovely ladies kept things constant. From Sub-Mariner #53 (July 1972) check out "The Return of the Nautilus!"

ReplyDeleteHey Groovy one!
ReplyDeleteBill Everett wasn't only one of the Golden & Bronze Age greats! He was one of comicdom's greatest inkers of all time also! His inks on Kirby's Thor & Gene"The Dean"Colan's Capt.A, Black Widow/ Amazing Adventures & Daredevil. Were totally far out in the early 70's! It was a tradgedy we lost such a top talent & iconic creator so young. He was at the top of his game when he left us.
Wow Groove! Great blast from the past! Amusing to compare the 50s Subby with the modern version - can't imagine today's haughty imperial Subby ever saying 'great pickled penguins'!
