Black and White Wednesday: "Small War" by McKenzie, Starlin, and Marcos

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Here's a real treat: "Small War" by Roger McKenzie, Jim Starlin, and Pablo Marcos. Separately, this terrific trio churned out reams of great comics, so it's a rare treat to see them working together as a team! This classic sci-fi shocker first appeared in Creepy Magazine #114 (cover-dated January 1980). Dig it!

    That's some really nice art - Starlin and Marcos definitely go well together. The story's not bad, either...

    Excellent -- nothing like 70s science fiction!

    May I ask a question of Groovy readers? I'm trying to remember/identify a story I read in Creepy or Eerie. It was probably the late 60s (68 or 69). All I remember is that it's about a bunch of kids. I believe one of them mistakenly thinks he's killed one of the group, and they boys then use a 'monster makeup' kit to scare him. He hides in an abandoned refrigerator (if I'm remembering aright), which then drops off into the water, drowning the kid.

    Is this an hallucination, or did I actually read this?

    Funny : These pages show some great Wrightstonian influence, both in the composition and the inking brush style (hair, muscles, fists, modeling faces...)

    But that's Warren publishing, after all, and Wrightson was a superstar at that particular time.
