Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Ya know, after 35 or so years, Ol' Groove still isn't sure to make of DC Special Series #8 (November 1977) aka 1978 Brave and the Bold Special. I love the kooky quartet of heroes: The Batman, Deadman, Sgt. Rock, and...Sherlock Holmes?! The plot goes anytime and anywhere-our heroes fight the devil, himself, fer crine out loud--but of course, what else would you expect from the magnificent mind of Bob Haney? Ric Estrada's layouts our good-to-great, but not flashy, while Dick Giordano's inks gives everything a nice, slick sheen. Oh, and the Jim Aparo cover rocks! See what you think, baby...
One of the favorite stories from the late 1940s. Can't go wrong with Haney, Batman, Deadman, Sgt. Rock, AND Sherlock Holmes. Thanks for posting, Groove!
ReplyDeleteOnly the wild and wacky Bob Haney could come up with a yarn like this!

As a Scot I really should be offended by that story, but it was so bad it was actually good and very relevant as Scotland is seriously considering splitting form the UK with a vote in 2014 - incidently the Scottish National Party (SNP or the Scottish Nationalists) are an official party and are currently in power in Scotland (Scotland has had home rule) - One little annoyance with US comics vision of the UK Scotland would not split from England (Scotland was never finally conquered ) but the UK (England like Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all part of the UK not part of England) But we got our own back on you as Scotland has given US comics MarkMiller, Grant Morrison and Frank Quietly (amounst others) so maybe were even now lol - Paul McScotty
