Groove's Faves: The Misunderstood Hulk
Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! One of my fave things about the Groovy Age was that, at any time, we would get one of those moments that just clutch you. The moment might make you laugh, gasp, cry, or shout with rage, but it would move you somehow. They were unexpected moments, hidden in the plot, gems that just made a story worthwhile on their own, but actually helped move the overall story along, as well. Take this moment from Defenders #21 (December 1974) by Steve Gerber and Sal Buscema (inks by Sal Trapani). It's the beginning of the famous "Headmen Saga", but Steve and Sal take time-out for a truly moving, deeply insightful look at the heart of the Incredible Hulk. Not only that, but Messrs. That whole scene is just brilliant: a bit funny and absolutely heartbreaking at the same time.
