Groove's Faves: "Violence at Veracruz" by Fleisher and Garcia-Lopez

Happy Holiday Trails, Pahdnahs! DC knew what we wanted for Christmas back in the Groovy Age--Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez drawing Jonah Hex! Yep, in December 1977, editor Larry Hama handed J.L. a cool Michael Fleisher script and turned him loose at the drawing table! What we got was one of the most gorgeous comics to hit the spinner racks for the 1977 Yuletide Season, Jonah Hex #10 (Complete with a Gray Morrow cover)! Git along and enjoy, Groove-ophiles!

    Ah, more lovely JL GL art on Hex. Too bad I wasn't a regular reader of Hex back then...

    Wait a minute, something's wrong here. This comic book actually tells a story , a complete story, in only 17 pages. That's crazy. Who ever heard of such a thing?

    Never mind. I just realized this comic book came from a different era. Before needless decompression or stories that needed six issues to tell a, well, 17 page story came in vogue.

    All smart aleck remarks aside, this is beautifully drawn. Jose Garcia-Lopez is an artists artist for a reason.

    What a great issue. I remember buying it at the local grocery store. Back when they sold comics at grocery stores.
