This past Wednesday (December 11) would have been Big John Buscema's 86th birthday, so Ol' Groove thought it might be kinda cool to share some (more) of my all-time fave Big John Marvel super-hero covers. These covers pried the pennies from Young Groove's sticky fingers. Bet they'd do the same thing today--what sayest thou?
Big John Buscema was the man!
ReplyDeleteLove 'em. (Really, the Avengers had to face . . . a man and a wolf?) I own that Neg Zone ish (in German!), and its layout has always baffled me, with that pale band that cuts across the image ahead of the Neg Zone screen.
ReplyDeleteBig John drew so many great covers! Some of my favorites were his FF Marie Severin laided out. His Nova #1, Frankenstein's Monster #8 & #9, Sub-Mariner #1, #8 vs The Thing & FF #107-#112!
ReplyDeleteThat Nova has a nice cover, if I remember the read (spolier alert), Nova fights robots made of Spiderman, The Hulk, Ironman and Captain America to test his powers.
ReplyDeleteI can remember thinking what a rip off of all those character's to be together after reading it. Still a cool cover though with nice Buscema art.

Mip, gotta second that opinion! Happy birthday Big John! You da man!

Hey, those look like comic book covers! Unlike some of today's fare...
ReplyDeleteBig John will always be the master. Thanks for posting these, Groove!
