In Spidey Super Stories #41 (April 1979), the team of Mary A. Mintzer, Linda Karas, Michael Siporin, Win Mortimer, Ric Villamonte, and Don Perlin adapted and simplified Marv Wolfman, John Buscema, and Joe Sinnott's Origin of Nova (as originally seen in Nova #1). It's so close to the original it's scary! Check it out!
Strange, you'd think they would had just reprinted the original story. Kind of stupid to redraw the exact same story. Unless it was too dark & grim like the Omega the unknown character was I could understand.
ReplyDeleteNot so strange. This was Spidey Super Stories, a comic created in collaboration with Children's Television Workshop's Electric Company, a program designed to bring reading to urban areas the way Sesame Street brought numbers and the alphabet. Marv Wolfman is many things, but a restrained wordsmith is not one of them. Reprinting the story would have introduced words sentence complexity not intended for the intended Spidey Super Stories audience.
