What it is, Groove-ophiles! Well, what it actually is is waaaay too long since we last checked out a chapter of Alfredo Alcala's magnificent Voltar strip as presented in Warren's The Rook magazine! How long has it been? About this long! Anywho, today's chapter (scripted by Will Richardson) comes from The Rook #3 (April 1980) and it's right here, right now. Dig it!!

Groove's Faves: "Full House--Dragon's High!" by Gillis, Miller, and McLeod
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Today's subject is a true-blue fave: Marvel Two-In-One #51 (February 1979). That George Perez/Joe Sinnott cover featuring The Thing, The Beast, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, and Nick Fury comin' atcha was enough to tug a quartet of dimes out of Teen Groove's pocket, but when I got inside the covers and saw the awesomely far-out art by that new guy Frank Miller and the magnificent Bob McLeod--my mind was officially blown! Writer Peter Gillis could have adapted a Mork and Mindy plot for all I cared, but (thankfully), he didn't. He gave us a cool action/espionage tale (that started out as a friendly poker game), allowing for some great character moments and some sweetly choreographed battle scenes. Yep, this one's an all-time fave, baby! Can you dig it?

(P)Raising Kane: "Judgment in a Small, Dark Place!" by Gil Kane
Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Today we're gonna glom onto the final ish of the first Hawk and The Dove series from Groovy Age DC! When Hawk and The Dove #6 rolled around in April 1969, Gil Kane had taken over the writing as well as the penciling chores (with inks provided by John Celardo). Our battling brothers definitely went out in style, didn't they?

Making a Splash: Al Milgrom's Captain Marvel
Wazzup, Groove-ophiles! Ya know, between Jim Starlin's legendary run and the grossly underrated Pat Broderick era, artist Al Milgrom kept things cosmic for our favorite Kree Captain, Mar-Vell! With writers Steve Englehart, Gerry Conway, and Scott Edelman, Al had Mar-Vell and Rick Jones battle the Watcher, take on the Kree Homeworld and the Supreme Intelligence, return to earth, kick Adaptoid and 3-D Man butt, and help the Inhumans against even more Kree. Inked by a veritable who's who of inkers (the best of which were Klaus Janson and Terry Austin, imho), Marv and Rick were loo-keeng goo-hood for Captain Marvel issues 37-53 (December 1974-August 1977)! Check out these superior splashes, baby!!
