Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Y'know, Amazing World of DC Comics #7 (cover-dated July 1975) featured tons of articles on Superman. My fave article from the ish? Jack C. Harris' interview with Superman artist supreme Curt Swan. Swan also did the cover, plus the "mini-poster" in the center of the mag showcasing his unused pencil art for the cover of Lois Lane #96 (thanks to the Grand Comics Database for the scan of the actual LL #96 cover--inked by Murphy Anderson--for comparison). Enjoy, baby!
Even though Swan's "signature" is on the cover, and it is definitely Swan drawing Supe's face, The layout is obviously by Carmine Infantino, based on the shape of Superman's body and the way the shirt folds are drawn.
ReplyDeleteBoy, the penciled cover is way more dynamic and sexy (lookit them gams!) than the published version! Wotta shame it wasn't used.
