Random Reads: "The Day of the Devil" by Levy and Amendola

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! It's been a long time since we rapped about Atlas/Seaboard's ka-razee Phoenix (last time we rapped about Phoenix was way back here), so today Ol' Groove is dusting off Phoenix #3 (March 1975) for ya! What can one say about a comic mag in which the hero actually fights The Devil? Just this: Gabe Levy and Sal Amendola made me read it!

  1. What does "Reyk." mean in that newspaper headline?

I like how he sits around in his costume at the diner.

Frank Thorne cover? Hm. Someone else drew the main character there, wouldn't you agree? Or just made some adjustments to Thorne's work?

  2. William, "Reyk," stands for Reykjavik, where the Phoenix had a battle with aliens in a previous issue.

  3. I would guess that the cover was done by Rich Buckler. Thanks for putting this up, Groove. I know I have it in the stacks, but no idea where.
