Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Welcome back to September 1979! Marvel Comics was under the leadership of Jim Shooter, and what a line-up of talent they had on display! John (busy-bee) Byrne, George Perez, Michael Golden, Pat Broderick, Jerry Bingham, Mike Zeck, Arvell Jones, Paul Kupperberg, Gene Day (did he ever have a busy September!), the Brothers Buscema (man, was Sal all over the place this month?), Gene Colan, Marie Severin, Jim Mooney, Herb Trimpe, Tom Sutton, Don Perlin, Frank Springer--and even Carmine Infantino and Steve Ditko! Spin that 70s spinner-rack, baby!!

The Dr. Strange page by Claremont is amazing. Can you post the rest of that? I totally want to read whatever was a both to happen next.
ReplyDeleteWow, Groove, an extra-special thank you today. This brings back so many wonderful comics-reading memories. I had almost all of these back in the day. What a great set of comics, and what a great time to be a comics fan...
ReplyDeleteGreat splash by Gene Colan on Dr. Strange. Also Mike Zeck on Master of Kung Fu.
ReplyDeleteCheck out the output of Sal Buscema and Gene Day this month! Now that's a busy four weeks!

Yep, Sal definitely deserves a medal for that month, especially since he also did the complete art, pencils and inks, in that month's issues of Hulk and Rom.
ReplyDeleteI also think Byrne deserves a bit of a shout out as well, since he did the pencils in Avengers, FF and X-men. Not too shabby...
The output of these artists is especially impressive when compared with that of today's young hotshots, many of whom can't even keep up with one monthly title.
ReplyDeleteAwesome time, when comics were comics. Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end... but they did unfortunately.
