Amazed by Aparo: "The Phantom of Shang-Ri-La" by Wood and Aparo
Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Jim Aparo's debut on Charlton's The Phantom! Written by Dick Wood, here's "The Phantom of Shang-Ri-La" from The Phantom #31 (January 1969)...
Loved Aparo in the 70s: Spectre (Adventure Comics) and various Batman. For some reason I always linked him with Rich Buckler since they seemed to come on the scene roughly the same time and their art was top shelf.
Wow! Many thanks -- we LOVE the Phantom. Wonder why he isn't more popular....?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great post, Groove. I'm so loving all of this early Aparo work from Charlton.

ReplyDeleteAnyone know a blog for the 60s and 80s?
Great stuff. I love how he takes down an ape, a panther, and gun toting thugs without using his .45's. But he still has them, just in case.
ReplyDeleteI need a set of Phantom rings.
