MOKF Monday: "A Gulf of Lions" by Moench, Gulacy, and Adkins

There is a reason Marvel's Master of Kung Fu is legendary among fandom. The stories are slick, fast-paced, and well-written with masterful dialogue. Doug Moench is one of the most astounding writers of all time, no jive! Add to that the pencils of the Second-Coming-of-Steranko* Paul Gulacy whose storytelling skills are pretty much unrivaled (inked in today's story by the mighty Dan Adkins), and you can understand the mag's fame. When you actually get to read one of those Moench/Gulacy classics, you KNOW why MOKF is so deservedly lauded. Just take, for example, "A Gulf of Lions" from Master of Kung Fu #30 (April 1975)...


















*And be sure, Gulacy wasn't ripping off Steranko--he totally got what Steranko was doing and took things to a whole 'nuther level.

    Nice artwork indeed. You don't suppose that Peter David read this and thought to himself, "I wonder what Aquaman would look like with a harpoon for a forearm?"

    I was just telling a much younger comic fan today how great 1970s Marvel was. One example I used was MOKF. Hopefully I can show him this issue as proof.
