Grooviest Covers of All Time: 13 Marvel-ous Horrors
Come into my parlor, Groove-ophiles! Today we're going to plant our peepers on 13 of Ol' Groove's fave covers from Marvel's monster/mystery anthology titles of the early 1970s. Have your flashlight ready, and the covers over your head!

I'm scratching my memory... did the white big foot Titan creature in Monsters on the Prowl 14 above fight the Defenders with a name like Xanadu? Or am I like half crazy today??
John Severin, Gil Kane, Al Milgrom, Frank Brunner, Herb Trimpe.....I bought these off the stands and, in my foolish youth, failed to recognize how great we had it as comic book fans then. NOW, I get it.
At the time these comics came out it was all I could do to afford the titles with new material in them (being in high school). So I usually passed on the reprints. Wow, did I miss a lot of great artwork. I particularly like the Kane, Brunner and Severin covers. I know what I'll be looking for in the back issue bins at the conventions and comic book stores from now on.

Xemnu, the Titan--originally, he was called the Hulk! Your memory is good--your sanity is...at least better than half! ;D

ReplyDeleteThe Monster From the Mound... I've read the original Howard story but I had no idea it was ever adapted in comic form. I would love to see that.
