Greetings from Skartaris: "Trilogy" by Mike Grell

What it is, Groove-ophiles! We're back with another amazing episode of Mike Grell's Warlord! If ya dig barbarians, groovy chicks, unicorns, dinosaurs, and ballroom brawls, "Trilogy" from Warlord #12 (January 1978) is gonna rock your world!

Oh, yeah, Ol' Groove skipped Warlord #11 on purpose--it featured a reprint of Warlord's first appearance from 1st Issue Special #8--but here's the cover and the "new" framing sequence for you completists...

Who loves ya, baby?

  1. I read a smattering of these early Warlord stories in one of the reprint digests from the later '70s - I recall that the young me was, shall we say, impressed with Mariah (hell, all of Grell's women, really). Looking at it now, my theory is that, just as she has make-up/paint around her eyes, so too is the rest of that 'outfit' supposed to be painted on - it was a like a sly little in-joke on Grell's part, having a naked woman walking around in a Code-approved comic (because seriously, an actual garment like that would be harder to keep in place than Starfire's so-called armor).

  3. Weird! there's actually two versionss of WARLORD 13 posted here. The first is above, and the blog portion is formatted a little different and blurred, but the Grell pages are all clear.
Here is the link to the more correct version of WARLORD 13, July 1978:

Note that the first version begins "http" and the second begins "https". I'm not a computer guy, I can't explain it, but there it is.
