Greetings, Groove-ophiles! A long, long time ago (August 2009), Ol' Groove shared Marvel's premiere ish of Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle (it's right here, if ya don't believe me!). A few months after that (November 2009), Ol' Groove laid part of ish #2 on ya (the origin parts). The origin was quite excellent, but so is the rest of Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle #2 (April 1977). I mean, it's written by Roy Thomas and illustrated by John Buscema, right? So here's the second part of Roy and Big John's adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar (with the origin adapted from Tarzan of the Apes and Return of Tarzan), "The Road to Opar!" Swing with Tarzan, baby!
Hey Groovster! Thanks for posting #2! I loved both the DC & Marvel series! Roy's & Tom Grindberg's Tarzan strip rocks too! Still hoping to get Man-God finished too one day soon! Roy's great adaptation & John's beautiful art Rocked this series! I just wish like John Carter of Mars it had lasted much longer!Tom Grindberg draws very much like John when he was inked by Tony Dezuniga. Speaking of....could you post the rest of the Doc Savage B & W Marvel magazines? It ran for 8 issues only and u post two of those issues already. Keep on Groovin Groovster!
ReplyDeleteDC reprinted them in a Showcase edition a while back, and Dynamite has a tpb collecting them out right now, Mike. Since they're in print, I really don't want to post them. Sorry, but hey, you can get those tpbs and enjoy!
DeleteThank you so much for this post, the Marvel Tarzan was my favorite incarnation of this great character.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Always thought John Buscema did the best comic-book version of Tarzan (followed by kid brother Sal).
ReplyDeleteI acquired most of the run through back issue shopping in the 80's & 90's. Such a glorious run. Now, if only it can be collected in TPB......
ReplyDeleteThat splash page is amazing, isn't it? And what a rare treat to see Big John inking himself. Thanks for posting this - agree with others above that whoever holds the license to this material needs to get it collected.
