Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Let's dig on a chiller with killer artwork by the one and only Alex Nino! "Museum of Murder!" is an offbeat story for House of Mystery (issue 256, October 1977 to be exact) for a couple reasons: it has two writers (plotter Mike Pellowski and scripter Robert Kanigher) and a single panel non-splash page (story page 4). Now those things wouldn't normally seem too out of place in a full-length tale, but in a nine page featurette? The genius of Nino! Check it out...
Too out of place...?
ReplyDeleteStandard rules don't apply where the mighty Alex Nino is concerned. Fantastic.
Haven't seen this one before, so thanks.

That's what I meant, sean, but it didn't come out that way, did it? I'll have to fix that... ;D
DeleteNo, no, the fault is all mine, Groove - its pretty obvious that was a rhetorical question in the first place.
DeleteI simply intended to agree.
-sean
I like it better the way it is now, anyway. And I always knew we agreed, sean! ;D
DeleteAlex Nino always made me think of Gerry Talaoc's work, did anybody else find their art work similar?
ReplyDeleteAlex Nino was a great, if esoteric, artist. Gerry Talaoc's efforts always made me cringe. So no, thankfully, I don't find their work similar.
DeleteWonderful; can't go wrong with Nino. I'm sure I've already mentioned this before, but I'd just love a book that collects all of these Nino-drawn shorts from DC's various anthology books in the 1970s.
ReplyDeleteAlex Nino, Basil Wolverton, Frank Frazetta, each one an artist with aunique style that can't be duplicated, each a master of the comics genre, and we, as comics fans, are the better off for their talents.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this post, Groovy One.
