Dig it, Groove-ophiles! The title of
All-Star Comics #63 (August 1976) says it all: "The Death of Doctor Fate!" Yeah, right! Well, it
is a pretty far-out comic, with Paul Levitz starting his incredible run as full writer of
JSA. Keith Giffen and Wally Wood are killing it in the art department (rarely has
Superman looked so--super)! And, best of all, the nails in the silly
All Star Super Squad concept start getting hammered as
Power Girl is promoted to full member of the
JSA. Check it out!

I love this series. Some of Conway and Levitz' plotting was a little wonky, but Giffen/Wood were one of the all time great art teams (although I guess you could say that about any team that included Wood). I wish they'd done more together than just these few issues of All-Star. Hourman even got to help kick the villains a**. How often did that ever happen?
