The Grooviest Covers of All Time: June Bats, Round Two: Detective Comics

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! Just like Ol' Groove promised last Friday, here are the far-out covers from Detective Comics that were released in June back during the Groovy Age. The eagle-eyed among you will note that some years aren't represented. That's 'cause 'Tec found itself on the receiving end of a bi-monthly schedule quite often during the swingin' Seventies, so several times we wound up getting an ish in May and another July, but zippo in June. Clear as mud? Then let's plant our peepers on some minor masterpieces from artistic luminaries like Carmine Infantino, Neal Adams, Mike Kaluta, Dick Giordano, Ernie Chan, Marshall Rogers, and Jim Aparo!

Round three, Brave and the Bold, headed your way next Friday, baby!

  1. That Man-Bat cover is iconic. I hadn’t see #454 before, but it’s really neat. But the cover for #451 is really something. Not looking at the real full-sized thing, Batman’s expression…almost looks like a smirk. A smirk! Man, if we could have that esthetic back again.

I'm going to Comicpalooza today in Houston. I'll see if I can't find a copy of this book and get an up-close look.
