Can you dig it, Groove-ophiles? Pathos. Humor. Charm. Wit. Laurel and Hardy? Along, of course, with action and bombast. All in a legendary western comic by Nick Cardy (plot and art) and Denny O'Neil (script). Here is"Melinda's Doll" from Bat Lash #2 (October 1968)...
It's a shame Nick Cardy was stretched so thin as DC's main cover artist after Neal Adams abdicated that role. It didn't allow everyone to see the lush artwork he was capable of when he slowed down; as in this Bat Lash entry (also his Teen Titans and Aquaman work from previously). The story here is beautifully illustrated, full of gorgeous brushwork, whimsy and even a little bit of cynicism. Bat Lash was a short lived, quirky little masterpiece populated with great storylines, characterization and the awesome presence of Mr. Cardy
