Greetings, groove-ophiles! We're back with the second sensational ish of
Omega the Unknown (February 1976)--the comic that was so far ahead of its time, comicdom is
still trying to catch up! And though it was, indeed, a mag far ahead of its time, t'was also a product of Groovy Age Marvel, which seemed to require a guest-appearance by another super-hero by no later than the fifth ish of any given new super-hero title. Instead of the usual
Spider-Man cameo, Steve Gerber, Mary Skrenes, and Jim Mooney chose the
Incredible Hulk (Gerber had proven a master of writing dialogue for
Ol' Greenskin over in the
Defenders). Still, you could say they gave
Web-Head a nod by using one of his villains,
Elektro. "Welcome to Hell's Kitchen!"

Great stuff. Thanks again for the emphasis on this series, Groove. Reminds me that I really have to pull my tpb off the shelf and give it a re-read sometime in the near future.
ReplyDeleteNice! I remember reading this issue way back in the day! Never collected the entire run, short as it was, but this brings back fond memories!

I could never understand Omega the Unknown. But I faithfully bought every issue, just like every Marvel Super-Hero title they put out at the time. The Buckler cover was an attention grabber from the spinner rack.
