Black and White Wednesday: Arthur Adams Covers the Groovy Age
Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Today we're going all Monty Python on ya and doing something completely different. One of Ol' Groove's most favorite post-Groovy Age artists is Art Adams. His Longshot mini-series, Creature from the Black Lagoon one shot, X-Men/New Mutants annuals/specials, and treasure trove of covers (among many other cool comics) has brought yers trooly mucho joy over the past few decades. Over the past few years, Mr. Adams has been doing lots of cover reproductions, many of which feature his versions of some far-freakin'-out Groovy Age covers. You may have seen 'em, but here they are again, just because they're oh, so cool!
Some great reimaging by the esteemed Mr. Adams. That JLA # 60 cover. Man, oh, man. Talk about some sensuous babes! Batgirl never looked so good.
ReplyDeleteAll of those are all so awesome I can't decide which is my favorite. I love Art Adams. I wish he did more regular comic work.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting looking through the prism of Art Adams covering Jack Kirby, Barry Smith, Jim Starlin and Rich Buckler among others. His covers seem to be more effective with the stylists like Kirby and Smith as opposed to John Buscema, the illustrator, which doesn't seem to work quite as well.

ReplyDeleteThe love he has for this era shines brightly in these images. I hope IDW is aware of this stuff for potential Artist Edition treatment. And wouldn't it be great to see Adams on a Marvel Monsters series, say Bloodstone against a new "old" monster every issue?
