Marvel-ous Mondays: "From the Ashes of Defeat!" by Thomas, Colan, and Colletta

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! Captain Mar-Vell and Super Skrull go at it in an action-packed mini-epic by Roy Thomas, Gene Colan, and Vinnie Colletta (with zip-a-tone work by Roy Thomas, himself). Besides exciting escapes, earthbound and outer space battles (including one with the Sentry), and alien-centric soap opera, we also get another early appearance by the future Captain Marvel, Carol Danvers. From Captain Marvel #3 (April 1968) let's watch the good Kree captain snatch victory..."From the Ashes of Defeat!"

    The pure stuff my man. I am instantly transported by these pages to my youth and a time when life was just about the important stuff like comics, fun, and getting a good pimento cheese sandwich.

      When I see this comic, I am back in South Carolina, picking up my Captain Marvels at Blewer's Red and White grocery store where I eagerly scarfed up all my 4-color wonders from the House of Ideas.

    I am always blown away by Gene Colan's art, no matter how much he is praised it can never be enough.

    Groove! Another awesome green Captain Marvel post! Gene's work just seems to bust out of the panels on the pages! I cannot wait until I get home from work to see this on the big screen Instead of my cell phone. Thanks again, groove!

    One of the things I liked about Mar-vell was, even before receiving cosmic awareness, he could hold his own against more powerful opponents, like the Super-Skrull, the Sentry, the Hulk or the Sub-Mariner, relying on training, instincts, smarts and sheer guts.
    No wonder Eon chose him as the protector of the universe. Nobody else could handle Thanos.
