What it is, Groove-ophiles! Just for the screams, why don't we gnaw on this biting bit of comicbook creepiness by Jack Younger and Jerry Grandenetti? Were those two titans of terror just winging it when they concocted "Stake Out" for Atlas/Seaboard's Tales of Evil #1 (December 1974)? Or did editor Larry Lieber stick his neck out for them? Ouch!
Jerry Grandenetti's artwork was so iconoclastic and bizarre. It took many years for me to appreciate his work for DC and Warren (and Atlas, here). His 3 issue run on the Spectre following Neal Adams has aged well (or as the Master himself remarked, "Grandenetti should have been doing the Spectre all along").
ReplyDeleteJack Younger was a pseudonym for Russ Jones I believe, original editor of Warren's Creepy. Over all I feel this story doesn't entirely hang together and Grandenetti's artwork has been better.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the Younger pseudonym. I should have mentioned that. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't! Thanks, Jasper!
DeleteA great tale with a great twist ending. Thank you for posting this.
