Decent Comics: "The Destiny Machine" by Michelinie and Redondo
Check it out, Groove-ophiles! The team of David Michelinie and Nestor Redondo went bonkers (in a very cool way) on Swamp Thing #17's (April 1975) "The Destiny Machine." Cool story and art, but this just blew Young Groove away: robotic wolves! HowOOOO cool is that!?!
Redondo's artwork still blows me away, and as a side note most of my comics had that annoying crease also lol

Nestor was hacking this book out by this point. He was still a strong artist, but this is not his best work. The last panel of page 15 is unintentionally hilarious: the Swamp Thing picks up Nathan Ellery and his wheelchair---and suddenly Ellery is the size of a small child! So much for relative scale and continuity. There are still a few good panels here and there, but Redondo was far more invested in his RIMA issues, and his first five issues of SWAMP THING (11-15), and especially THE BIBLE treasury edition (which may explain why his work was suffering here---he was probably spending more time on that).
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, Berni Wrightson had floated over to Warren and was doing some stellar stories in CREEPY and EERIE, not to mention his remarkable frontispieces.
